What To Expect From Apple in 2016
Just like every year since shifting its emphasis from computers to consumer electronics in 2007 Apple are set for a very busy 2016. With lots of devices rumoured we take a quick look at what’s likely to be released by the tech giant over the next 12 months and whether we think it’ll be a success or flop.
iPhone 5se
Expected to be unveiled in the second quarter of 2016 the plastic 5se will allegedly house tech from the iPhone 6/6s in a smaller more competitively priced smartphone. In an age where devices seem to be only increasing in stature Apple’s 4-inch screen will target alienated iOS fans that yearn for a more diminutive phone.
We reckon: SUCCESS - It probably won’t be as successful as the 6/6s but we don’t envisage Apple losing any sleep over the sales figures.
iPhone 7
Like all of Apple’s recent flagships the iPhone 7 will probably be launched in September 2016 and will feature a complete aesthetic overhaul. Although we’re not going to win any prizes for this prediction the seventh iteration will probably feature a better screen faster processor and improved camera.
With a thin chassis improved 3d Touch and waterproofing mooted the iPhone 7 will probably be a big hit.
We reckon: SUCCESS – even if the iPhone 7 doesn’t drag smartphone lovers away from Android or Windows devices Apple fanboys and girls will ensure the device is a massive hit regardless of the price.
iPad Air 3
With no iPad Air release in 2014 the third instalment is by Apple’s standards long overdue. Having been in development for over a year everyone’s expecting big things from the iPad Air 3. With rumours of LED flash support improved speakers 4K display 4GB of RAM and a longer battery life this could be a beast of a tablet.
We reckon: SUCCESS – Given the lack of iPad in 2014 the next generation will probably fly off the shelves.
Apple Watch 2
With only updates for the first Apple Watch expected to be announced in March we probably won’t hear anything regarding a second edition until later in the year. Due to this there isn’t much in the way of specs to discuss; however early rumblings have suggested the Apple Watch 2 will feature a video camera for FaceTime calls.
We reckon: FLOP – with relatively poor sales of Apple’s first smartwatch coupled with the fact many still view the devices as a gimmick we don’t envisage the Apple Watch 2 making any great waves outside of the Apple-obsessed community.
Macbook 2016
Like its range of iPhones Apple tends to release a new Macbook every year and 2016 should be no different. Set for an early summer release the new Macbook will feature a USB-C charging port new graphics card better battery and slick aesthetic overhaul.
We reckon: SUCCESS – Despite its probable high price tag for many there are simply no substitutes for a Macbook.
