5 Reasons to own the HTC One M9
The launch date is set for 1 March; at least one phone retailer already has a pre-registration system set up and we’ve recently seen a spate of official-looking leaks. In short everything is in place and we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from the HTC One M9.
So should you get one? Here are five reasons why HTC’s top-end phone for 2015 deserves close attention...
1. Business as usual on the design front.
Whereas Samsung likes to experiment with the likes of dimpled plastic back panels HTC owners have come to expect a certain way of doing things in terms of build. For The original HTC One and each subsequent version has featured a premium-feel metal unibody. Expect more of the same from the M9 – with models available in gunmetal gold and silver.

2. It’s big – but not too big
Average mobile screen size tends to creep up gradually – but surely this can’t keep going on forever? Rather than pushing display size up towards phablet territory HTC seems to have drawn a line in the sand in sticking to the 5-inch screen size of its predecessor. For anyone looking for more than this there’s an outside chance that a HTC One M9 ‘max’ model could be unveiled too.
3. BoomSound gets even boomier
Audio quality is more than an afterthought with HTC – and the front facing BoomSound speakers on the HTC One M7 and M8 are what helped to set it apart from the ‘tinny’ competition. Rumours are that the Taiwanese manufacturer has collaborated with Bose to move audio quality to the next level for this year’s offering. If it really is possible to achieve convincing surround sound via a mobile phone HTC is probably the manufacturer who will get there first.
4. Camera issues are ironed out
The dual-sensor camera on the M8 was praised for its special effects capabilities – such as the ability to add background blur to images for a professional finish. While image quality was impressive the general feeling was that the end results didn’t quite measure up to the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S5. Indications are that HTC will be keeping the dual-sensor set-up – but with an upgrade to 20MP sensors. Quality-wise expect the M9 to be at the very least on a par with anything that’s released this year.
5. A focus on performance
Think less in terms of gimmicky apps and more along the lines of the smoothest and quickest performance possible. As you would expect leaked benchmarks suggest that the M9 will have the edge over the existing crop of smartphones (such as the Galaxy S5 iPhone 6 and Nexus 6) by some distance – thanks to a 1.9Ghz octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM.
Head to head with the Samsung Galaxy S6
The HTC One M9 isn’t the only flagship smartphone making its debut over the next couple of weeks. Hot on its heels comes the Samsung Galaxy S6 – and both will be vying for the attention of buyers looking for the latest and greatest Android phone experience.
